Urgent warning over silent killer behind THOUSANDS of deaths after Brits scared off getting simple life-saving meds

THOUSANDS of middle aged people are now dying from preventable conditions due to fear they would put pressure on the NHS amid the pandemic.

Sir Chris Whitty has warned the government that trouble accessing medication could be leading to over 800 deaths a week.

The Times has reported that thousands of middle aged Brits are dying from easily treatable heart conditions.

It is suspected that people were too scared to go to the NHS when the Covid pandemic was at its peak and did not receive vital statins or blood pressure pills.

Another contributing factor is believed to be that people were too frightened to go to hospital in fear of catching the virus.

The Medical Adviser highlighted that the 5,170 men aged from 50 to 64 who died could have been helped by heart medications.

Health and Social Care Secretary Steve Barclay agreed with Whitty and said: “Now, one shared point of understanding must be the scale of the COVID backlog, with around now 7.1 million patients.

“For example, we know from the data that there are more 50 to 64-year-olds with cardiovascular issues.

“It’s the result of delays in that age group seeing a GP because of the pandemic and in some cases, not getting statins for hypertension in time.”

To try and solve the crisis, it was promised earlier this year that a network of up to 160 testing centres would be accessible to the public by 2025.

So far, The Department of Health has opened more than 90 community diagnostic centres that Brits can access to test for cancer, heart and lung disease.
