It was also ranked as the 13th safest city in America by Forbes.com in 2009. Union City has a Council-Manager form of government. The current mayor is Vince Williams, who was elected to office in 2013.

The chief of police is Anthony Carter. Public education in Union City is provided by Fulton County Schools.

The city is served by two high schools – Langston Hughes High School and Sandy Creek High School – as well as one middle school and four elementary schools. Union City is also home to Georgia Perimeter College’s South Campus. The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is located just minutes from Union City.
