Kansas' governor vetoed tax cuts again over their costs. Some fellow Democrats backed it

The Democratic governor in Kansas has vetoed a broad package of tax cuts for the second time in three months. Gov. Laura Kelly described the tax plan Wednesday as too expensive despite the bipartisan support it enjoyed in the Republican-controlled Legislature. The cuts in income, sales and property taxes would be worth $1.5 billion over the next three years. Meta more than doubles Q1 profit but revenue guidance pulls shares down after-hours

Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta says its first-quarter profit more than doubled, boosted by higher advertising revenue and a 6% increase on the average price of ads on its platforms. But its shares dropped sharply in after-hours trading following lukewarm revenue guidance. Meta Platforms Inc. earned $12.37 billion, or $4.71 per share, in the January-March period. Ex-Connecticut city official is sentenced to 10 days behind bars for storming US Capitol

A former Connecticut city alderman has been sentenced to 10 days behind bars for joining a mob’s assault on the U.S. Capitol over three years ago, court records show. Chief Judge James Boasberg also ordered Gene DiGiovanni Jr. to perform 50 hours of community service for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. A Chicago sidewalk landmark some residents affectionately called the “rat hole" was removed Wednesday after city officials determined the section bearing the imprint of an animal was damaged and needed to be replaced, officials said.

Pennsylvania redesigned its mail-in ballot envelopes amid litigation. Some voters still tripped up

A company started by a Texas billionaire oilman has announced a deal with Venezuela’s state-owned oil company to rehabilitate five aging oil fields. Wednesday's announcement comes days after the Biden administration put a brake on sanctions relief for Venezuela amid concerns about the fairness of its upcoming presidential election. As part of the deal, LNG Energy Group was awarded contracts by state-run PDVSA to take over production and develop two oil fields in eastern Venezuela that currently produce about 3,000 barrels of crude per day. Investigator says Trump, allies were uncharged co-conspirators in plot to overturn Michigan election

Arkansas panel bans electronic signatures on voter registration forms

An Arkansas panel has prohibited election officials from accepting voter registration forms signed with an electronic signatures.
