3 months on, GNIDA yet to launch work on sewer network despite NGT order

The Greater Noida Authority has not yet started work on developing a sewer network and sewage treatment plant in 93 villages as ordered by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Villagers complain that sewage is still being disposed into local ponds. The NGT had directed the authority to submit an action report on the utilization of treated sewage water for non-potable purposes. The NGT has warned that if the report is not filed within six weeks, the CEO of GNIDA will have to appear before the Tribunal.

Security guard handed 3-year jail term for raping minor in Noida

A Pocso court in Noida has sentenced a 35-year-old man to three years in prison for molesting a 14-year-old girl in 2014. The accused, a security guard, grabbed the girl from the area and took her into his room, where he attempted to rape her. The girl raised an alarm and was rescued by locals. The accused denied the charges but was convicted based on witness testimonies. He was sentenced under IPC and Pocso Act.

Homes to roads: Construction goes unchecked near Surajpur wetland

Despite a National Green Tribunal order banning construction activities near Surajpur Wetland, houses, shops, and roads are being built in the area. The order also called for the removal of unauthorized encroachments, but the forest department has not taken action. Environmentalists and birders are calling for an extension of the construction ban to 500m, citing damage to the wetland and groundwater exploitation. The forest department and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority have been urged to take necessary action.

Dutch co accuses Indian staff of selling its source code to Dubai firm; FIR filed

Dutch software development company, Solulever BV, has filed a complaint against five employees and a former director of its subsidiary in Noida for allegedly selling the firm's source code to a Dubai-based rival. The employees are accused of transferring the source code to a private GitLab account and sharing it with the Dubai firm. The accused have been booked under sections 420 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology and Copyright Acts. The investigation is ongoing.
