The Minnesota Vikings’ Are Imploding Vs. Indy And It’s Comedy Gold
Minnesota Vikings fans swore up and down for weeks that you are what your record says you are. At 10-2, they were convinced they had the right to be called the second-best team in the league. Yet people with eyes and common sense knew something was off. Minnesota had gotten thrashed 24-7 by Philadelphia and 40-3 by Dallas in each of their losses. They looked like a team that had survived more on good fortune than skill. Then they lost to the Detroit Lions last week. Even then, people weren’t ready to admit this team is deeply flawed.
Well, they have no legs left to stand on after what might be arguably the worst first half the organization has ever produced. Keep in mind the Indianapolis Colts were 4-8-1 and losers of three in a row going into their Saturday matchup with the Vikings. It was in Minnesota. Everything pointed to them being the heavy favorites. Thirty minutes later, the home crowd sat stunned as their team had fallen behind 33-0. What made it even more delicious for Vikings haters was how widespread the meltdown was. Every phase contributed to the disaster. Here’s a list of the key moments
- Colts blocked a punt for a touchdown.
- Dalvin Cook lost a fumble that led to another touchdown.
- Vikings threw a fake punt pass on 4th and 1 that failed.
- Kirk Cousins was sacked by his own right guard.
- Justin Jefferson left the game with an injury.
- Cousins threw a pick-six.
The Minnesota Vikings will make the playoffs.
Beyond that? Don’t expect much. They’re a team that took advantage of an easier schedule, got some outrageous luck along the way, and is finally running out of it down the stretch. Opponents have become wise to their weaknesses and continue to exploit them. They don’t run the ball well and have one of the worst defenses in the league. That is not a recipe for success in January. It isn’t hard to imagine any NFC playoff team beating them, from Philadelphia to Dallas, San Francisco, and even Tampa Bay.
The best part is the Chicago Bears will have a chance to add to their misery. The Minnesota Vikings close out the season with a visit to Soldier Field. If they aren’t careful, there is a strong possibility they might be fighting for the division title with Detroit surging. If both teams go into the final week 10-6, then a win could decide who hosts a playoff game. Not only that, but they’ll also be fighting for playoff seeding even if that isn’t the case. The fact they’ll have to get that win in what will likely be a wind-swept, frigid Soldier Field is fun to contemplate.
