Oakland police ID city’s 99th homicide victim of 2023
OAKLAND — Police here have identified a 28-year-old man who was shot and killed on Oct. 11 in the city’s 99th homicide of 2023.
Hector Martinez, of Oakland, was shot and killed around 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 11, near where Kerwin Avenue meets Knight Street in Brookfield Village, police said. His body was found near a parked trailer that had also been struck by gunfire.
Police uncovered evidence that more than one person fired a weapon during the incident, authorities said. Thus far, no arrests have been announced, and police haven’t said if they’ve uncovered the motive.
A GoFundMe for Martinez’s family — that to date has raised $875 of a $20,000 goal — says the family was shocked by “such a sudden loss and death that we were not prepared for.”
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or the tip line at 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
