One dead following Halloween gunfire in Bay Point
BAY POINT — A person died Tuesday night after gunfire rang out in a neighborhood, according to authorities.
Few details were available Wednesday afternoon, but the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the sheriff’s office was investigating the fatal shooting.
A spokesperson for the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
Deputies responded to the Island View Court near Port Chicago Highway about 9 p.m. in the unincorporated city’s Shore Acres neighborhood, according to a sheriff’s dispatcher.
Residents in the neighborhood early Wednesday said they heard gunfire and that it occurred while some kids still were out trick-or-treating.
The sheriff’s office has investigated six homicides this year. This will be the third homicide investigation involving an incident in Bay Point.
No other information was available immediately.
