One dead following Halloween shooting in Bay Point

BAY POINT – A person was shot and killed Halloween night in Bay Point’s Shore Acres neighborhood, authorities said.

Gunshots were reported around 9:25 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Island View Drive, according to Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jimmy Lee. Muir Station deputies arrived to find a person suffering from gunshot wounds.

Deputies performed CPR on the male victim while they waited for firefighters and paramedics to arrive, Lee said. The victim was later pronounced dead. He was not identified.

Homicide detectives and crime lab technicians were summoned to the scene, Lee said.

Shore Acres residents on Wednesday said children were out trick-or-treating when the shots rang out.

The sheriff’s office has investigated six homicides this year. Half have happened in Bay Point.
