Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit has defeated a legal appeal from a plaintiff who sued for a pedestrian and bicycle crossing.
James Duncan filed the lawsuit in Sonoma County Superior Court. Duncan claimed Santa Rosa has an enforceable agreement for SMART to build a $1.825 million crossing over Jennings Avenue, according to the appellate ruling.
A judge ruled against Duncan. He filed a challenge with the 1st District Court of Appeal. In a ruling issued Oct. 27, a three-judge appeals panel ruled unanimously against Duncan.

GOP women to host
Assembly candidate
The Novato Republican Women, formerly the Novato Republican Women, Federated, will hold a luncheon featuring George Radanovich, a candidate for the 8th Assembly District in East Fresno.
Radanovich will talk about a legislative plan he authored to help children overcome trauma, organizers said.
The luncheon is set for 11 a.m. Nov. 14 at Marin Country Club, 500 Country Club Drive. Cost is $30 for members or $35 for guests.

Artists sought for
powwow contest
The Marin American Indian Alliance is seeking artwork for its powwow flyer and T-shirt art contest.
Adult Indigenous artists or artists with Indigenous ancestry from Marin are invited to submit designs.
A cash prize will be awarded. The selection will be used for the second Marin Powwow on March 17.
