George W. Bush congratulates 'awesome' Texas Rangers on World Series win

Former President George W. Bush is among the Texas Rangers mega-fans celebrating their first World Series championship, saying he’s proud of “this awesome team.”

The Lone Star state team clinched their first World Series title in their 63-year franchise history on Wednesday, besting the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 in Game 5.

“As a Texas Rangers fan, I am thrilled for Texas Rangers fans tonight,” Bush said in a Wednesday statement following the game.

“I congratulate the owners, the managers and coaching staff, the front office, and the entire organization. And of course, I congratulate the players of this awesome team on winning the first World Series in our club's history,” the 77-year-old former commander in chief said.

“This was baseball at its finest, and Laura and I are proud of this team,” Bush said.

The ex-executive mansion resident is an avid baseball fan and served as the managing general partner of the Rangers from 1989 to 1994. He sold his stake in the team before his presidential run.

Last week, Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch in the World Series opener. The crowd chanted "USA" as he walked to the pitcher's mound.
