CT man charged following hit-and-run crash that killed 62-year-old pedestrian in New Britain
A man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian in New Britain Wednesday night.
The collision was reported at about 9:15 p.m. in the area of 146 S. Main St. where police received the report of a crash involving a pedestrian, according to the New Britain Police Department.
Police said the pedestrian, identified as 62-year-old New Britain resident Brenda Catucci, was believed to be hit while she was in the roadway. The driver involved left the scene, police said.
Catucci was taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut where she died as a result of her injuries, according to police.
New Britain Dep. Chief of Police Adam Rembisz said in a statement the driver involved was located “shortly after” the crash. He has been identified as 25-year-old Sam Harriss of New Britain.
Rembisz said Harriss has been charged with evading responsibility involving a death and other motor vehicle infractions. He was held in custody overnight and was expected to be arraigned Thursday in New Britain Superior Court.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Ms. Catucci,” Rembisz said.
The crash is still being investigated.
