Shafiqah Mohammadi, the daughter of a dedicated athlete from Afghanistan, showcased her remarkable talent in the World Combat Games (WCG), competing in the third weight category of 52 kilograms. She not only earned a place in the prestigious event known as the “World Combat Games” but also achieved a remarkable feat by securing the coveted bronze medal in these intense competitions.
Ms. Mohammadi, in a conversation with the Khaama Press News Agency, expressed her heartfelt desire as a girl from Afghanistan. She aspires to see schools, universities, and sports clubs, which rightfully belong to all, open their doors, enabling young girls to pursue their education without hindrance.
Born in 2003 in Jaghori district, Ghazni province, she is currently a student at one of the universities in Iran after completing her primary education. According to Ms Mohammadi, she began her sports journey in the discipline of “savate” in 2018 and, after a year, became a member of the Afghan national savate team in the 52-kilogram weight category.
The Combat Games is a global competition hosted by Saudi Arabia, featuring 16 sports disciplines held from October 20th to 30th through international sports federations under GAISF. It’s worth noting that in one-quarter of the savate competitions, she defeated her Romanian opponent 3-0 but was defeated in the semi-finals against her French rival.
Unfortunately, Mina Moibzada and Saadat Ayin, two other Afghan athletes in this discipline, also fell short of winning medals in this round after losing to their French opponents.
This dedicated young athlete, who attributes her achievements to her family’s support, told Khaama Press, “I want to continue my education and sports and bring honour to myself, my family, and my country.”
Furthermore, Ms. Mohammadi emphasizes, “I hope the interim government in Afghanistan grants girls the right to education, schooling, sports, and work, so they are not deprived of what is rightfully theirs.”
It’s worth mentioning that the World Combat Games have been held every four years since 2010.
