A MAJOR brand is set to replace an iconic sports car with an EV that will be their most powerful road car ever.
Mercedes-AMG are poised to begin development of its first electric sports vehicle as an alternative to the legendary Mercedes-AMG GT.
The Vision AMG will arrive in 2025 complete with innovative, UK-developed drivetrain technology.
The stunning electric motor will replace the electric GT 63 with prototypes expected to start hitting the road in the coming months.
Boasting sporty high-tech seamless design and breath-taking proportions, the Vision AMG has a futuristic character.
Its concept proportions hint at a focus on interior space while maintaining handling and aerodynamic performance.
And the EV is expected to place as much emphasis on dynamic performance and engagement as it does straight-line speed, reports AutoCar.
It’s impressive power could edge towards the 1000bhp mark.
Mercedes exterior design boss Robert Lesnik said the Vision 2025 takes “full advantage of the new [AMG.EA] platform in both the design and the proportions”.
He added that the plan for the production version is to create “a low and sleek” saloon with “outstanding aerodynamics” and the space to accommodate four adults in comfort.
The manufacturers aim to take on highly acclaimed and big-selling EV sports saloons such as the Porsche Taycan, Audi E-tron GT and Lucid Air.
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it will use a new silicon anode material from US firm Sila for their battery.
The 2025 saloon is described as a four-seater, but no doubt larger successors will make space for a third seat in the rear.
A Mercedes-AMG spokesperson said: “We do not comment on future models.
“Our Mercedes-AMG CEO has already confirmed that we are developing AMG’s own BEV at AMG.EA platform for the second half of the decade and the Vision AMG has given a possible outlook on this.”
This comes after a warning has been issued to UK drivers over new driving laws that could be announced this month.
