She received unsettling opinions about the $300 dress, and people online said it looked more like a “cheap devil costume” than something to wear to a wedding occasion.
Reddit user Cowmeleon (cowmeleon) posted about a chic dress ahead of a wedding she had coming up in a few months.
She took to the social media platform to gauge opinions ahead of the New Year’s Eve event.
She posted a potential dress option in the popular group WeddingAttireApproval.
It is meant to be an online community where people come to ask if an outfit for an upcoming wedding is appropriate.
According to the Reddit user, the invitation said to “wear your best sequins and sparkles.”
She showed readers the high-priced dress she wanted to wear for the event.
It was the Gwendolyn Mini Dress, $298, from the formal wear brand For Love and Lemons.
It is a long-sleeved red cocktail dress with a sheer scarlet sequin fabric, cowl neckline, and shoulder ties.
Many of the people in the group gave honest opinions and what the style looked like.
Some people said it looked more like a Halloween costume than a wedding guest dress.
“I hate to say this but it looks a little like a Halloween costume and not a dress. I would think NYE colors like gold, silver, and black, obviously darkish versions, and not bridal,” a reader commented.
