Fugitive wanted in fatal CT shooting of ECSU student apprehended at Miami airport
A man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of an Eastern Connecticut State University in Norwich in May has been arrested as a fugitive at an airport in Florida.
Stancovitch Fabre, 20, was taken into custody Monday at the Miami International Airport after investigators learned that he was wanted in the May 10 shooting death of 19-year-old Camaury Jabezz Norman-Clack, according to the Norwich Police Department.
Fabre was found in the rental car lounge during an unrelated investigation and was apprehended by members of the Miami Dade Police Department, Norwich police said.
Norwich police hold a warrant for Fabre’s arrest on one count of murder, police said. He will be charged in Norman-Clack’s death once he is extradited back to Connecticut.
Norwich police on May 10 responded to Sandy Lane at about 1:40 p.m. on the report of a shooting and found Norman-Clack suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to William W. Backus Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 3:41 p.m., police said.
At the time of the incident, police said Norman-Clack lived on Sandy Lane and that his death was being investigated as a homicide. Investigators quickly identified Fabre as a “person of interest” in the targeted killing, adding that the 20-year-old formerly resided on the same street.
Norman-Clack graduated from Norwich Free Academy and was a student at Eastern Connecticut State University at the time of his death.
Police were able to obtain a warrant for Fabre’s arrest following an “extensive investigation,” Norwich Sgt. Christopher Chastang said in a statement Thursday.
“No further information is available at this time,” Chastang said.
