SDGs OFFICE TO PARTNER ONIRU FAMILY FOR PROVISION OF RELAXATION FACILITY AT GREEN PARK
The Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has revealed plans to support the Oniru family in the provision of relaxation facilities at Oniru Green Park, Lagos Island, to enhance recreational activities in the axis.
Revealing this at the meeting held recently with members of the Oniru family at the Office in Ikeja, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih disclosed that the initiative which is in line with the vision of “Let’s Grow Iru Land Together” is aimed at transforming Iru land into a sustainable community.
According to her, the relaxation facility, which is to be sited on Oniru Green Park within the Crown Land (Oniru Estate), will serve as a recreational oasis for residents and tourists alike, promoting green spaces and leisure activities in the heart of Lagos Island.
Highlighting the proposed component of the project, the Special Adviser explained that the recreational garden will offer a wide range of fitness apparatus, fitness programmes, a children’s play area and a mini football pitch that will cater to various needs of the community.
“It is visualised to be a place of rest and rejuvenation for residents and visitors; a more eco-friendly and sustainable approach to urban development, not only for the natural environment but also as an urgent need to improve the lifestyle of urban dwellers, as this will particularly help with reducing mental stress”, she emphasised.
While assuring the family of the State’s strong interest in the development of the garden, Dr. Oreoluwa pointed out that the integration of the facility within Green Park will encourage and enable residents to prioritise their health and fitness.
Acknowledging the remarkable efforts of the State Government in transforming Oniru and other neighbouring communities, the Olopon of Iru land, High Chief Olumide Oniru remarked that the facility will greatly improve the quality of life in the community, ensuring that residents and visitors will have an amazing experience.
While appreciating the SDGs Office for identifying with the project, Chief Olumide expressed the desire for continuous collaboration, adding that Oniru of Iruland, HRM. Oba Abdul-Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal will be pleased to see that initiative come to fruition.
The meeting also had in attendance the Baale of Oroke Town, Chief Bashir Afolami; Bobaselu of Iru Land, Chief (Engineer) Adeyemi Adesina; Otun Bobaselu of Iru Land, Chief Olaotan Olamuyiwa; Executive Assistant to HRM, and the Abisogun II foundation, Mrs. Wuraola Solomon.
