0

The Management of the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development led by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kehinde Gbajumo recently visited sites of government ongoing and proposed projects, soliciting the cooperation of the community leaders with the contractors handling the projects to ensure prompt completion of the projects.

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu at the proposed site for the Alayabiagba Market Jetty at Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, Mr. Gbajumo said the inspection was to enlighten residents of the host community on the project and to further ensure the viability of the project alongside LAGSFERRY.

He disclosed that the water channel would be channelised to allow for the navigation of bigger vessels to promote commerce and movement of people to the neighbouring riverine communities, urging all illegal squatters around the area to vacate the Jetty Terminal site immediately in order not to disrupt work when the construction commences.

He disclosed further that all the illegal shanties within the waterway setback narrowing the navigable water channel as well as the huge refuse dump would also be removed to give way for safe and easy navigation. He further charged the community leaders and Market Development executives to cooperate with the State Government for prompt delivery of the project.

The Permanent Secretary and his team were also at the site of the Jetty Terminal Muwo in Ojo Local Government Area to inspect the ongoing project where they implored the Baale of Muwo, Chief Bolaji Jimoh and other prominent members of the community to call the illegal dredgers around the site to order.

He urged the illegal dredgers to do the needful by registering and obtaining all the necessary permits from the Ministry to forestall severe damage to the environment and the projects sited in the area for the benefit of the people. He noted that the activities of the illegal dredgers if not curbed can also damage the newly constructed government road in the area.

The Baale, speaking on behalf of the community, appreciated the Lagos State Government through the Ministry for the laudable project, promising to ensure that the dredgers complied with the rules and regulations of the State Government.

The inspection team was also at Ijon Ferry Terminal in Camp David, Alimosho LGA to inspect the Lagoon given the plan to dredge the water channel to create a deeper ferry route to allow bigger boats and vessels to ply the area. This is aimed at improving water transport around the area to other parts of Lagos and neighbouring Ogun State.
