I gave my ugly 1950s laminate counter a $20 upgrade – it turned out really well and is resilient, too
A FISCALLY responsible mother has shared the budget-friendly way she revamped her kitchen counter from the 1950s.
She showed viewers how she gave the ugly feature an upgrade in her home that turned out well and lasted.
Wife and mother Racoomes (@racoomes) is a DIY and home decor fan.
In a TikTok video, she brought viewers into her house and showed how she gave an “easy upgrade” to an “old, ugly laminate.”
The best part is that it only cost her $20.
When the video began, she showed viewers her old 1950s-style kitchen countertop that was covered in rust stains and scratches.
Next, she pulled out a can of Rust-Oleum Appliance Epoxy Paint, $26.98 on Amazon, in the shade Gloss White.
She filmed her husband as he used a paint roller to cover the entire space.
The budget-friendly trick elevated the space and transformed her home within moments.
She also mentioned that she sanded down the counter before painting to get rid of any of the marks.
A month later, the blonde woman chimed into the comments to inform viewers that there were no scratches and no scuff marks.
Viewers offered their two cents and shared their similar experiences with the helpful hack.
Another chimed in: ” Because it scrapes up within a few months.”
Racoomes wrote back: “I’m not sure about that. it is epoxy paint and very resilient.”
“Did this on our kitchen countertops. We’re rough on them. It’s been a year and not one scratch and no stains. I’ve used all different cleaners too,” another shared.
“Yeah, it still looks good on our counters too!” the content creator replied.
A fan praised: “Looks so good!!!” to which she replied: “Thanks! it actually turned out really well!”
