New twist in Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat farm shop car park battle with local council

JEREMY Clarkson has been told he doesn’t need as many trees on his farm as part of his latest battle with council chiefs.

The telly presenter is hoping to develop land at Diddly Squat as featured in popular Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm.

He wants to build a new car park with trees and bushes screening visitors’ parked vehicles in the picturesque Cotswolds.

But a landscape and forestry officer now insists a 3m-high hedgerow and “a few crab apple and field maple” saplings will do the job.

The West Oxfordshire District Council worker said: “There does not appear to be a need for so many potentially very large trees along the boundary hedging around the car park.”

It could further delay solving parking issues, which were highlighted in the latest TV season, despite the planning inspector approving a car park.

Ex-Top Gear host Clarkson, 63, has blamed planning red tape for making it harder to turn a profit at his 1,000 acre farm in Chadlington, Oxfords.

He previously told Talk TV: “I don’t know what you have to do, but I simply can’t get planning permission for anything, which is infuriating.”
