On Sunday, humanitarian organizations reported that undocumented Afghan migrants are fleeing Pakistan out of fear of arrest and deportation.
According to these organizations, once they enter Afghanistan, they lack access to necessary food, water, suitable shelter, and toilets.
However, the Taliban claims that committees are working to help Afghans with the distribution of food, water, and blankets. This group has also announced that it has allocated two billion Afghanis to care for expelled migrants.
Nevertheless, it seems that there is a significant gap between the promised aid from the Taliban and the access of these migrants to such assistance, as reported by The Associated Press.
Tommaso D’Ascoli of World Vision International stated, “People are entering Afghanistan with only their clothes. Their watches, jewellery, and cash have been confiscated at the Pakistan border.”
The director of the Save the Children organization also mentioned, “Many of those returning to the country lack educational documents, which makes continuing their education difficult. They have learned Urdu and English, but they do not know the Dari and Pashto languages.”
This organization has expressed concern about the potential rise in child labour and their involvement in smuggling activities in Afghanistan, primarily driven by poverty. Among the returning families, the majority are the poorest among Afghan migrants in Pakistan, making them particularly vulnerable to these harsh circumstances.
Afghanistan is grappling with a multitude of challenges that have been amplified by the isolation of the Taliban-led government from the international community. Years of drought, a fragile economy, and the far-reaching consequences of decades of warfare have pushed millions of Afghans into dire poverty, exacerbating an already precarious situation.
The dire economic conditions and social hardships in Afghanistan have created a bleak outlook for the country’s future. With the Taliban government’s limited access to international aid and resources, the struggle for necessities continues to weigh heavily on the Afghan population, leaving them in a state of profound vulnerability and uncertainty.
