My dad was a Friends heartthrob – he inspires me but I have a very different career working with horses
WHEN you have a Friends star for a dad you might be tempted to follow in his successful career, and become a Hollywood actor yourself.
However, Tom Selleck’s daughter couldn’t have chosen a more different career than her famous father.
Tom, now 78, played Monica Geller’s (Courteney Cox) love interest Richard Burke on the hit sitcom Friends during the mid-90s.
Fans of the comedy series will remember how Richard was Monica’s much older boyfriend, a divorced ophthalmologist who was friend of her parents Jack and Judy.
Although Tom’s character made a brief cameo in the later seasons, she ultimately married pal Chandler Bing – played by the late Matthew Perry – and had twins via a surrogate.
Despite his Friends fame, and successful movie career, his daughter Hannah, 35, has devoted her life to horses, and is an stemmed equestrian.
Tom shares Hannah with his wife of 36 years, Jillie Mack, 65, who he married in 1987.
According to Equestrian Living, Hannah learned to ride horses at a young age after her father and mother moved to a ranch in Ventura County, California.
She began training at the elite Foxfield Riding School and started her professional career as an equestrian after graduating from Loyola Marymount in 2011.
Hannah competes in Grand Prix level show jumping and operates a horse breeding and training business called Descanso Farm.
Hannah shared how her parents encouraged her to do what she loved.
She said: “Because [my parents] are both artists, they believe in the idea that you have to be very passionate about what you do to be successful. They encouraged me to be passionate about it and immersed in it, and from there, it was kind of on me how I wanted it.”
Meanwhile, away from Friends, and Tom was best known for playing Magnum PI in the 80s.
He also starred in the hit movies Three Men and a Baby (1988), followed by Three Men and a Little Lady (1990), alongside Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson.
