Their family is then left with all the chores to do as the series aims to highlight how much work the participants really do.
Viewers get to watch as the family cope with the change and see if the household can still function day-to-day.
However, overnight ratings for Wife on Strike show the programme launch to just 700,000 viewers.
It’s below the Channel 5‘s slot average of approximately one million viewers for 9pm.
As a result, bosses have now decided to pull the show from the schedule after its second episode broadcasts next week.
It’s set to be replaced by Casualty 24/7: Every Second Counts.
The Sun has contacted Channel 5 for comment.
Viewers at home were left divided after watching the first instalment, as one branded it “one-sided”.
Another said: “Not sure I’m going to watch #WifeOnStrike again. It was tedious.”
“I can’t believe how old fashioned this show is,” said a third viewer.
But the show did have fans as one tweeted: “Wife on Strike on Channel 5 is 10/10! Great content power to the workers.”
