Recall sought for city councilman who took part in 'Unite the Right' rally
Local residents are trying to recall an Oklahoma city commissioner believed to have marched with white nationalists in Charlottesville, Virginia, in the infamous "Unite the Right" rally.
Enid city commissioner Judd Blevins helped plan and took part in the 2017 march, according to the Enid Social Justice Committee, and has spread hate propaganda across the state and tried to recruit members to a neo-Nazi group, reported KOKI-TV.
The Raw Story has reported on Blevins' ties to the rally and his previous role as state coordinator of Identity Evropa, a now-defunct group the Anti-Defamation League describes as a “white supremacist groups that is focused on the preservation of ‘white American identity’ and promoting white European culture."
“That old phrase, ‘You will not erase us, you will not replace us,’ — we have to have that attitude,” Blevins said on an Identity Evropa podcast, according to Right Wing Watch. “Every single day we have to have that attitude. We have to be of that mindset and we have to spread our message to other people.”
The Enid Social Justice Committee is seeking a recall vote and new election to replace Blevins as Ward 1 commissioner.
Blevins, a U.S Marine Corps veteran who was born in the city and graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, was elected in February.
He was elected to one of the commission's six seats by 36 votes over incumbent commissioner Jerry Allen, for a 52 percent to 48 percent win.
