A man was arrested this week for breaking into a home in Mansfield while the homeowner was on the line with 911 dispatchers, state police said

Keith Haddad, 37 of Mansfield, has been charged with home invasion, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing, second-degree criminal mischief, interfering with a 911 call and disorderly conduct, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said dispatchers received a 911 call at about 7:32 p.m. Tuesday from someone reporting that a man was banging on the doors at their Mansfield residence and trying to break in. Responding troopers learned that the suspect broke into the home through a basement door as they were en route and that the 911 call between dispatchers and the victim had gone silent.

State police arrived and found Haddad inside the basement and detained him. Troopers said they recognized him as the same person who had been told earlier in the day to stay away from the residence during a previous complaint involving police at the home.

According to state police, Haddad reportedly broke into the residence, causing significant damage to the basement door, to confront the complainant about the incident reported earlier in the day.

The victim told police after Haddad stormed into the basement of the home he made his way into the living area of the residence and found that the complainant was in a bedroom with the door closed, state police said. Haddad allegedly yelled through the door about police being called earlier and forced his way into the bedroom, causing a minor injury to the victim’s arm, according to state police.

Haddad allegedly pushed the victim against a wall and continued yelling while the 911 call was still active, state police said. He then allegedly grabbed the cell phone and threw it, leaving it inoperable, according to state police.

The victim was able to get away as Haddad was throwing the phone after a witness in the home told the complainant to run and get out of the home, state police said. The victim was able to get to a neighbor’s house before troopers arrived.

Haddad was held on a $30,000 bond following his arrest and was arraigned Wednesday in Rockville Superior Court. He did not enter a plea during the hearing.

Haddad remains in custody and is due back in court on Dec. 13.
