King Charles’ 75th birthday portrait revealed as it’s set to grace the cover of Big Issue
THE King’s 75th birthday portrait will grace the cover of the Big Issue as he highlights food poverty and waste.
The pic features in the homelessness-fighting mag next week when he will use his big day to unveil his Coronation Food Project.
It comes after Prince William sold the Big Issue on London’s streets last year — then appeared on the front for his 40th birthday, following his cover appearance in 2010 a few months before his wedding.
The King and Queen Camilla will launch the scheme on Charles’s birthday on Tuesday when they visit a food distribution centre.
Speaking to Big Issue, he said: “Food need is as real and urgent a problem as food waste — and if a way could be found to bridge the gap between them, then it would address two problems in one.”
Charles will also host parties for charities, the Windrush community and NHS heroes.
His black and white portrait was taken by celebrity photographer Rankin — full name John Rankin Waddell — at Clarence House gardens in October.
Rankin — who has also captured Kate Moss, Madonna and David Bowie — was among snappers invited to record the late Queen Elizabeth in the autumn of 2001 to mark her Golden Jubilee.
