Journalist says Spurs do not consider themselves favourites to sign PL star
Journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur do not consider themselves the front-runners to land Ivan Toney but remarked that the Brentford star might be tempted to play for Ange Postecoglou.
Multiple publications have reported recently that Toney is expected to be the subject of a bidding war between several top sides when his ban lapses in January.
This includes an update by The Daily Express last month, which suggested that Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are set to battle it out for the 27-year-old, who had allegedly expressed his intention to leave the Gtech Community Stadium.
Two weeks ago, Sky Sports claimed that the Bees had no intention of letting their star striker leave in January and that it would take a whopping £100m to prise him away from the West London club.
However, this was subsequently dismissed by David Ornstein, who told NBC Sports last week that Brentford have not put any price on their star man but added that Tottenham are ‘worth watching’ in the race for the centre-forward’s signature.
Tottenham are not favourites to land Ivan Toney
Jones has now opined that Toney might quite fancy his chances of thriving under Postecoglou.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think Tottenham is an interesting prospect for Toney to consider. Speaking to a couple of sources close to Tottenham, I’m not sure that they would consider themselves to be favourites in that situation.
“Obviously, the money that’s now being talked about makes me doubt whether a Tottenham move could actually come through in the new year.
“But I think, from a player perspective, if you were to wonder how you would fit into a team and a squad, personally, I think that you’d look at Ange Postecoglou and how he is getting the best out of people. That’s the sort of manager I would want, and I think a lot of the modern players will be looking towards having a role model like that.”

It does not appear as if Toney is going to sign a new contract at Brentford. However, I suspect that the Bees would want to hold on to the striker until next summer unless they receive a huge fee in January, which Tottenham are unlikely to offer.
