Toddler drowns in back garden pool after being found face down as other children played nearby in Perth
A TODDLER tragically died in a backyard pool while other children played nearby in Perth’s southern suburbs.
The 18-month-old boy was found face down in the water on Sunday.
Adults started CPR before paramedics arrived and rushed the child to Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch, but he could not be revived.
A Western Australia Police spokesperson said the drowning was a tragic accident.
It comes just days after a new pool safety campaign was launched and it was revealed 27 children under the age of five drown every year in Australia.
A seven-year-old boy was last month pulled unconscious from a public swimming pool in Balga, 13km north of the Perth CBD.
The distressing incident prompted the local council to issue a warning to all parents, urging them to put away their phones and keep a close eye on their children as they swam in pools.
