UK’s trendiest dog names revealed – including a surprising film-themed moniker taking the top spot
THE UK’s trendiest dog names have been unveiled – with a surprising film-themed moniker nabbing the top spot.
Researchers collected data from over a million pooches from an online network of pet sitters, Rover, to seek out the most popular names.
Topping the chart was the name Pink in honour of Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster, Barbie.
Nipping on its heels in second place was Freddo, marking a 1,179 per surge in that name’s popularity.
Rover saw the name Hovis surge following the popular social media craze where owners snap their furry friends resembling a loaf of bread.
A host of eyebrow-raising moniker’s also made the list, with Albus Dumblepaws, Bark-A-Lot, Billy Boo Boo, Chugsley Chugglesworth and King Arthur Slobbergob proving to be popular choices.
Luna, Bella and Lola lead the way in popularity for female dogs and Milo, Teddy and Buddy for male – but the trendy new names are hot on their tail for pups in the UK.
The achievements of England’s Lionesses saw Jill spike by 579 per cent, inspired by I’m A Celebrity winner Jill Scott, and Russo rocket by 191 per cent after star striker Alessia Russo.
Pop Juggernaut Taylor Swift has also inspired a soaring spike in pets named after her.
Taylor trended up by 123 per cent and Swift by 29 per cent.
Charles rose by 90 per cent in the King’s Coronation year but Camilla fell by 21 per cent and Meghan plunged by 117 per cent in a reflection of relative royal popularity.
Ken – played by Ryan Gosling alongside Margot Robbie’s Barbie in the smash hit movie – rose by 79 per cent.
Rover’s canine behaviourist Adem Fehmi, however, has told owners that opting for simpler names will make their lives easier.
He said: “Finding the perfect name for your pooch can sometimes be a difficult task, especially if a name doesn’t immediately spring to mind or when you’re set on naming them something unique.
“And whilst it’s wonderful to see pet parents getting creative and thinking outside the box when it comes to naming their pup, remember, you’re the one that has to be comfortable shouting this across the park.
“So, whilst I encourage pet parents to have fun with naming their pups when they first get them, think about some potential repercussions if they are totally out of the blue.
