‘The View’ quiz: Can you name all 24 permanent hosts? [PHOTOS]

When ABC’s “The View” premiered in the summer of 1997, it was introduced by creator Barbara Walters as a talk show focused on “women of different generations, backgrounds, and views.” To that end, the meticulously curated inaugural panel of hosts consisted of five loquacious ladies (aged 22-67) who brought an abundance of life experience to the table. Over 27 seasons, the ever-popular show has gone through 24 full-time hosts whose tenures have lasted an average of five years. Walters, who also served as an original host of “The View,” was joined in that sense by Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos, Meredith Vieira, and (periodically at first but then permanently) Joy Behar. Today, only Behar remains, with the rest of the present lineup featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro. Over the years, conscious efforts have been made to maintain balance on the panel in terms of age, race, and ideology, with the hosts’ various claims to fame covering many facets of entertainment and politics.

Since its inception, “The View” has followed a simple format characterized by informal, “hot topic”-based discussions among its hosts often followed by celebrity interviews. Over the course of more than 5,000 episodes, the show has welcomed scads of guest hosts, several of whom have been promoted to full-time positions. At the annual Daytime Emmys, the rotating female groups have collectively competed for the Best Talk Show Host award 21 times, winning once in 2009.
