Toners, Hill Road keeping hope alive

0

Defending champions Burger King Clapham Toners and Hill Road maintained their outside hopes of catching UWI Blackbirds when the second round of the Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One Women’s Volleyball League was served off last night at Oldbury, St Philip.

Toners and Hill Road not only eased to 6/3 records and 29 points each but they both needed to come from a set down to defeat their opponents. Hill Road overturned a first round straight sets loss to sister team, Chargers 13-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-23.

Captain Kinisha Webster-Marshall, Devon Leacock, Kezia Harris and former Barbados captain Anthazia Mason starred for Hill Road. Without an injured setter Dayna Babb, Chargers looked a disorganised team with only occasional spikes from Thonya Joseph and Latifah Wood suggesting they once ruled women’s volleyball.

After losing their opening set and sliding 14-17 in the second, Toners overcame Development Volleyball in Motion 24-26, 25-22, 25-13, 25-19. Ashley Jordan was the key attacker for Toners and she also melted DVM’s hopes of an upset with her tactical serves.
