The ‘spectacular’ triple waterfall in the UK that’s featured in huge Hollywood blockbuster
ONE of the country’s oldest tourist attractions remains almost as popular today as it has for hundreds of years.
The UK is home to some amazing natural sights, including some famous waterfalls, like Aysgarth Falls.
The falls appeared in the film Robin Hood Prince on Thieves[/caption] Before featuring in the film, they were visited by the likes of William Wordsworth[/caption]The three-tiered natural water feature was visited by historical figures like William Wordsworth in the past and has even featured in some Hollywood blockbusters.
One person who was impressed with their visit was Yorkshire Tiktok channel Adventures in Yorkshire (@adve_nturesinyorkshire).
They shared footage of all three levels of the falls, and explained a bit about its history.
They wrote: “The three stepped waterfalls at Aysgarth have been a tourist attraction for over 200 years.
“Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy visited while they waited for their coach horses to be changed and Turner sketched them on a tour of the north.
“More recently they provided a dramatic setting for a scene from the Hollywood movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
“Aysgarth falls are a triple flight of waterfalls carved out by the river Ure.
“The falls are spectacular after rainfall as thousands of gallons of water cascade over the broad series of limestone steps which are divided into 3 stages: Upper force, Middle force and Lower force.”
Their footage impressed plenty of the followers, including some who had already visited the falls.
One wrote: “Magical place.”
Another said: “Saw it like this about 3 years ago, magnificent.”
The very spectacle of the falls was enough to attract people in the past, but now its cameo in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, alongside the likes of Kevin Costner, Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman is perhaps what it’s best known for.
They provided the backdrop for the famous stick fighting scene, in which Robin and Little John hit one another with wooden staffs in the river.
The falls aren’t the only natural spectacle to enjoy in the area, with the Freeholders’ Wood Nature Reserve close by.
The Yorkshire Dales website described the falls as “spectacular” and also claimed that there are some rare creatures that call the nearby woodland home, and can be spotted if you’re lucky.
They said: “Freeholders’ Wood Local Nature Reserve alongside the falls and there are several easy paths winding through it.
“In spring the wood is full of wood anemones and primroses. You may even be lucky enough to see roe deer darting away into the shadows.
“In recent years dormice have been reintroduced and we are pleased to say that they are thriving. They only come out at night so you are unlikely to see them but maybe you will hear them snoring if you are very, very quiet!”
Meanwhile, this amazing English beach is home to thousands of seal pups every winter.
And this seaside town is home to famous ponies and an award-winning theme park.
