Rosemary oil’s blown up for hair loss but I’m an expert and wouldn’t choose it – another product’s proven to work better
A HAIR-loss consultant has shared her thoughts on the viral trend of using rosemary oil as a hair-loss treatment.
And while she doesn’t have a problem with the TikTok-famous hack, she says there’s another product on the market that’s far more effective.

Sophie Humprey (@thathairlossexpert) is a hair loss expert and owner of a UK hair loss clinic and line of hair loss products.
She shares facts and tips about managing, dealing with, and even reversing hair loss with her 16,000 TikTok followers, drawing on 11 years of experience.
In a recent clip, Sophie revealed her thoughts on whether rosemary oil really works.
She said: “If I had to choose between rosemary oil or Minoxidil, I will always go with Minoxidil, and here’s why.”
She goes on to explain that in her opinion, rosemary oil blew up across social media as a potential fix for hair loss because it’s cheap and easy to access.
The expert said that for rosemary oil to begin to have a positive effect on hair growth, it’s necessary to apply it twice a day for six months.
Sophie said: “When we’re treating hair loss in a clinic, we have access to Minoxidil at 5% strength.
“The strong result you’ll get from this product will outstrip what is possible for rosemary oil to achieve.”
She also said that a non-clinical Minoxidil at 2% strength was also effective.
Commenters were curious about her advice.
One person said: “I’ve been using topical Minoxidil at 5% for 7 months now and I’ve had great results when it comes to hair growth.”
Another wanted Sophie’s advice and asked: “I have been using Minoxidil for two months now and I see no difference, my hair is still thinning.”
The hair expert replied with encouragement: “Too early to tell. Be consistent every single day for at least six months. Shampoo daily, and apply the same amount each day.”
