Rodrigo Bentancur has been praised by the Uruguayan press after impressing as a substitute in the win over Argentina on Thursday.
Bentancur has come as a substitute in Tottenham’s last three Premier League matches and it was revealed by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold following the game against Wolves that there was some concern at Spurs regarding how the midfielder would be used during the international break.
The journalist explained that Tottenham are taking things extremely carefully with the 26-year-old’s recovery and were worried that his body might not be ready for 90 minutes of football just yet.
Ange Postecoglou would have breathed a sigh of relief when Marcelo Bielsa left Bentancur on the bench for Thursday’s clash, with the former Juventus star coming on just past the hour mark.
The Tottenham man impressed on his return to the side, winning the ball and kickstarting the move that led to Uruguay’s second late in the game.

El Observador gave Bentancur a 7/10 rating and wrote: “Came on in the 60th minute for the injured Maxi Araujo. He returned to play for the national team after 11 months, after a serious injury that took him off the field for eight months.
“He stood in the line of four midfielders that the coach placed behind Darwin Núñez. He recovered the ball that generated the counterattack that ended in Uruguay’s second goal.”
Cristian Romero played all 90 minutes for Argentina while Giovani Lo Celso came on as a substitute in the 80th minute.

One would hope that Bielsa once again uses Bentancur as an impact substitute for the clash against Bolivia on Tuesday as the last thing Tottenham need right now is for the 26-year-old to have a set-back, given the number of injuries that Ange is dealing with at the moment.
