A tuskless male elephant, known as a makhna, was found dead in the Pollachi forest range in Coimbatore. The carcass, which was decomposed, was discovered by a patrol team. The elephant, estimated to be about 35 years old, had been captured and translocated multiple times in the past. It had recently strayed out of the forest and roamed in the locality for over two months. Despite efforts to track its movements with a radio-collar, officials were unable to locate the animal in deep valleys. A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
