I’m scared my boyfriend will seek revenge after I told him a huge lie

0

DEAR DEIDRE: I lied to my boyfriend about cheating on him with his brother. Now I’m scared he’ll try to score points and get back at me by coming on to my beautiful sisters.

It’s a mess and it’s all my fault. We were arguing and I was losing. I was so angry with him I yelled: “You’re not as good in bed as your brother.”

As soon as I said it, I realised I had hurt him beyond belief.

His brother is 26 and he’s 30. I’m 29 and female. I told my boyfriend that it happened one night in the summer when he went to bed feeling ill after a meal at our house.

I made the whole thing up, but once said it, it was out there. He’s forgiven me, but says he can’t speak to his brother at all right now.

I’ve got sisters who are twins. They are 27 and do a lot of modelling together.

I’m worried that my boyfriend fancies them and I don’t want him to spend any time with them.

My auntie’s birthday party is coming up, but I think I’ll have to feign illness so he doesn’t get a chance to get back at me.

DEIDRE SAYS: Whatever you were arguing about, lying about something so damaging is raising red flags.

By lashing out, with the intention of hurting him at any cost, you show that you are emotionally insecure and vulnerable.

Truth be told, you’ve exacerbated the problem by lying and will seriously damage his relationship with his brother.

It would be best to come clean and ask him for forgiveness.

Think about why you reacted so rashly, and consider talking to someone impartial to help you understand yourself and build more emotional resilience.

My support pack How Counselling Can Help will show you where to find reputable therapists.
