The fall postseason has been narrowed down to its usual suspects — the football teams from San Marin and Marin Catholic, plus a number of state qualifiers in cross country.

San Marin took down Maria Carrillo on Friday night to reach the North Coast Section Division IV final on Friday then MC took down Tam on Saturday to make the D-III final.

This past week, girls volleyball, girls golf, girls tennis and water polo seasons all wrapped up with Marin Academy, Redwood and Archie Williams among those that stayed alive until the final week of competition.

Braiden Bachich-Dixon and Peter Macaulay, Marin Catholic football

This connection worked six times for 78 yards, including a trio of touchdowns as the Wildcats took down Tam 35-16 in the NCS D-III semifinal. In a game that featured some massive plays by both teams, the biggest might have come when MC was facing a fourth down while leading 21-9. Macaulay found Bachich-Dixon for a 27-yard touchdown that boosted MC’s lead up to 28-9. An incomplete pass there would have given a dangerous Red-tailed Hawks offense the ball back down 12 with more than a quarter left to play.

Zack Farbstein and Grant Means, San Marin football

San Marin showed off its depth in a 59-7 NCS D-IV semifinal victory against Maria Carrillo. Farbstein ran for a game-high 87 yards and tacked on a late touchdown. Perhaps even more significantly, Farbstein recovered the onside kick that helped the Mustangs race out to a quick 14-0 lead. Means caught three passes for 53 yards, including a first-quarter touchdown from Dominic Ingrassia to make it 21-0 and a fourth-quarter score from Daniel Rolovich to make it 52-0.

Max Dunmire, Tam boys cross country

Dunmire completed the 3-mile course at Hayward High in 16 minutes, 1 seconds to win the NCS D-III race and lead Tam to the team title as well. Dunmire’s strong kick at the end of the race allowed him to finish eight seconds ahead of the field. Tam was also aided by strong runs from Lucas Ruark, Dylan Collister, Gilby Filat, and Marko Zink.

Hailey Sellers, Branson girls cross country

The freshman impressed at her first NCS meet, placing fifth in the D-V race with a time of 18:47.2. Across all divisions, Sellers finished with the 16th best time and the fastest of any Marin runner. Sellers qualified for the State Meet as an individual.

Ethan Werner, Redwood boys cross country

Werner placed fifth in the D-II race, helping Redwood advance to state as a team with his time of 15:41.4. Notably, Werner’s time was the ninth-best across all divisions and the best by a Marin runner.

Elizabeth Liu, Branson girls golf

Liu became the first female golfer from a Marin high school to qualify for State, carding a 12-over 83 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach on Wednesday. Liu got through the first 13 holes at 4-over par before a couple of rough holes derailed her a bit.

Kate Lane and Muriel Harris, Marin Academy girls volleyball

Lane, the senior outside hitter, and Harris, the freshman middle blocker, helped fuel the Wildcats’ run to the D-IV state title game on Saturday. Lane had a team-high 13 kills and added 21 digs in the NorCal final victory against Kingsburg on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Harris added nine kills and a number of blocks, including an absolutely dominant stretch early in the third set. MA’s state title dreams ultimate came up one win short, losing to Glendale in the championship game. Lane and Harris again were among the standouts. Lane led the way with 17 kills, including 10 in an electric second-set performance. Harris again saved her best for the third set, coming up with five kills and two blocks as the Wildcats extended Glendale to a fourth set.

Ann McDermott and Jane McDermott, Marin Academy girls tennis

MA entered two doubles teams into the NCS D-II bracket last week and the McDermotts won four consecutive matches to claim the title. Their toughest match was their round-of-16 battle against Natalie Goldberg and Sophie Britton of College Prep. The McDermotts pulled out two super-tiebreakers to win in three sets then didn’t drop another set the rest of the week, beating Cece Erhart and Alara Ozturk of University in the final.

Loretta Hovey, Archie Williams girls water polo

Hovey helped lead the Peregrine Falcons to the NorCal D-I semifinals by scoring a team-high five goals in Tuesday’s 10-9 sudden-death victory against Davis. Hovey added another goal in Friday’s semifinal as the season came to an end in a loss against top-seeded Leland.
