CT man convicted of assaulting woman in front of her teen daughter

A jury on Monday found a man guilty of assaulting a woman and endangering her child in New Haven last summer, officials said.

Harold Bell, 48, was found guilty of second-degree assault, unlawful restraint, risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

According to evidence presented at trial, Bell assaulted a victim of domestic violence in New Haven on July 13, 2022, in front of her 15-year-old daughter, officials said.

During the assault, he reportedly put the woman in a chokehold from behind and strangled her, then punched her in the head three times causing her to need sutures and leaving a scar on her forehead, according to officials.

The woman’s daughter reportedly tried to help during the attack and Bell shoved the girl into a wall, officials said.

Bell was arrested at the scene of the attack, according to officials.

Bell is being held in custody at the New Haven Correctional Center, according to Department of Correction records. He is scheduled to be sentenced in New Haven Superior Court on Jan. 22, 2024, officials said.
