The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a domestic franchise tournament but it’s way more valuable than the ICC World Cup. The IPL got Rs 48,000 crore for five-year broadcasting rights, but the ICC got only Rs 24,000 crore for four-year rights. This monopoly is a problem. Most Indian fans don’t show much interest in the matches that don’t involve the Indian team. And, that is making the cricketing eco-system extremely lopsided and problematic.
