The Permanent Secretary/Tutor General, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, has been honoured with the Adeboruwa Award of Excellence by the Paramount Ruler of Igbogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali.
The award is an acknowledgement and appreciation of her sterling contributions to the overall educational landscape in the State, with emphasis on her transformative impact in Igbogbo Kingdom.
With her unwavering commitment to excellence and positive influence in the education sector, Mrs. Adekanye has remained an architect of positive change and progress within the realm of education in the country.
As an administrator, she has earned recognition among students, teachers, proprietors, and schools for championing change in her education district, which covers Somolu, Kosofe, and Ikorodu Local Government Areas.
While receiving the award, Mrs. Adekanye’s citation revealed that she remains the only administrator to produce three winners of the prestigious One-Day Governor of Lagos State.
“As TG/PS Education District V, the District remarkably produced both the One-Day Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State in 2017. The District, in 2018, produced three out of the best four participants in the Spelling Bee competition”, the statement said.
Her antecedents as a trailblazing school administrator were reaffirmed in 2020, when a student of her district emerged as the Y2020 One-Day Governor of Lagos State, just as another pupil from the same District was crowned the winner of the Y2021 Spelling Bee Winner and One-Day Governor.
This remarkable feat makes her the first and only administrator to achieve the same feat at different times when she was at the helm of two education districts.
While receiving the award, Mrs. Adekanye expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for the ingenious policies and programmes that have made the education sector of Lagos stand tall in the country.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, District II, also thanked the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Tolani Alli-Balogun, and the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Victoria Peregrino for providing the support and environment that made her excel in service.
In the same vein, Mrs. Adekanye thanked HRM, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Abdulsemiu Kasali, for the award in recognition of her hard work and development of education in the community.
