Mo Gilligan quits as host of The Brits 2024 after just two years presenting show
MO Gilligan has announced he will not be returning to host the Brit Awards for a third time.
The ITV presenter has fronted the annual star studded music ceremony for the last two years.
But the 35-year-old personality has now announced that he will step down from his duties due to scheduling conflicts with another huge project.
Taking to social media, he re-posted an old tweet from 2011 on his story where he said: “In 2013 I need to host the #MOBO’s or #TheBritAwards *Fingers Crossed*.”
His dream seem to came true as he previously shared the Brit Awards stage with the likes of Shania Twain, Harry Styles, Idris Elba and Sam Smith.
In a statement on his Instagram story he said: “I’ve had the most incredible time working on The Brits but unfortunately as I’ll be in the US for my first World Tour next spring, I’m sorry to say that I’ll be stepping down from hosting duties for 2024 and handing over the baton.
“It’s been phenomenal to work on this iconic event.
“I’ve loved getting to know all the remarkable people who run The Brit Trust and the outstanding Brit School.
“The tireless work you do to improve lives through the power of music and the creative arts is sensational and I promise to supporting whenever I can.”
He added: “Thank you to ITV for making a young man’s dream come true and to all the brilliant performers, guests, production team and most importantly, the viewers at home for all your amazing support.”
“It’s been an honour. See you on Tour!”
As he made the decision to step down, a BRITs spokesperson said: “The BRITs are incredibly proud of Mo hosting the awards for the last two years, he is an exceptional entertainer who is going from strength to strength in his career, and we thank him for delivering two brilliant shows for us.”
They added: “The live awards show is always evolving, and we are excited to welcome someone new to the helm for 2024, with more details to be announced at a later date.”
The Masked Singer judge was announced as the new host in 2022, taking over from fellow comedian Jack Whitehall.
He has become a staple of TV over the years after his breakthrough moment in 2017, after he was spotted by Drake, who later quoted Mo’s comedy on his Instagram account.
Since then he’s gone on to front shows such as The Big Narstie Show and The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan, both on Channel 4.
He’s also appeared on huge programmes such as Celebrity Gogglebox, The Cube, and his Netflix special Mo Gilligan: Momentum was released in 190 countries globally.
