Bristol police ID parents killed in Thanksgiving crash that injured three children
Two parents who died in a car crash in Bristol on Thanksgiving that injured their three children have been identified as New York residents.
The Bristol Police Department on Monday identified the parents as 41-year-old Toby Cohen and 37-year-old Brook Cohen of Scarsdale, New York. The two were killed during a crash reported shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday on Stevens Street in Bristol near the Farmington border, police said.
Police, firefighters and medics responded to the crash and pronounced the parents dead on the scene, according to police. Three children in the vehicle, between the ages of 2 and 6, were taken to area hospitals following the serious crash, police said. The condition of the children remained unclear on Monday.
Police said the initial investigation showed that the vehicle carrying the family of five was headed westbound on Morea Road in Farmington before crossing into Bristol onto Stevens Street where, just east of Cherry Hill Drive, the car left the right side of the road and hit a sign and some trees before coming to rest in a wooded area. Firefighters had to extricate some of the occupants.
Bristol police said they worked with several agencies to identify the victims.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Officer Andrew McKirryher at 860-584-3033 or andrewmckirryher@bristolct.gov.
