State police: 20-year-old man allegedly drove over 120 mph on Route 8, fled police in multiple CT towns

A New Jersey man allegedly drove more than 120 mph and fled from officers multiple times in several towns in Connecticut on Sunday, state police said.

Ethan Steier, 20, of Warren, New Jersey, faces charges of reckless driving and disobeying the signal of an officer, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said they first encountered Steier at 2 a.m. in Bridgeport when he was allegedly seen driving over 120 mph on Route 8 South in the area of Exit 2 in a green BMW. The area is a 55 mph zone.

Troopers tried to pull Steier over, but he reportedly accelerated and got onto I-95 South, eluding police, according to state police.

The vehicle was spotted minutes later exiting I-95 South at Exit 18 in Westport, where troopers again tried to pull Steier over, state police said. He fled the area and was spotted again in Westport, where he reportedly eluded Westport Police Department officers and got onto the Merritt Parkway heading north, state police said.

The BMW was found shortly after parked on Waller Road in Bridgeport. State police said they located the vehicle with assistance from the Trumbull Police Department. The driver was identified as Steier.

He was arrested and released on a $1,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Jan. 8, 2024.
