Queen’s Park defender Will Tizzard was on hand to announce to the pupils of Mount Florida Primary that the club’s ‘Design a Christmas Card’ competition involving local youngsters will be running for a third consecutive year thanks again to the generous backing of Insurance Brokers - Laurie Ross.
The competition was won initially by St Fillian’s Primary School pupil Macy Flavin in 2021, when she showcased what a ‘Southside Christmas Tree’ would look like, with Morven Campbell from Pollokshields Primary winning last year for her design based on a ‘Glasgow Christmas Tree’.
Morven picked up the fantastic prize of a £50 Hamleys toy store voucher, a Queen’s Park goodie bag including a full strip, and a £100 Voucher for a family meal in a town centre restaurant with a taxi service provided last year with her teacher Miss Mullen receiving a Jo Malone gift bag.
The winning entry from Morven was also made into a card that Queen’s Park will use as its official Christmas Card over the next month.
This year’s theme will test the imagination of all the schoolchildren who enter as they as being asked to design a ‘Scottish Christmas Card’.
The prizes will be the same this year with the winning card used by Scotland’s oldest club next Christmas.
Bristol born Will said: “I am looking forward to seeing what a ‘Scottish Christmas Card looks like” as it is my first Christmas in Scotland. I am sure that there will be loads of entries that give me a good idea of what I am in line for.
“I hope that everyone enjoys taking part. The pupils at Mount Florida are already excited about Christmas and this competition has added to that excitement.”
Local Schools will receive their entry forms over the next few days and, we are sure that the interest will again be high especially with a prize being available to their teachers!
Entry forms will also be available from Queen’s Park’s club offices at The City Stadium on Letherby Drive or from the Laurie Ross Branch, which is just across the road at 37 Carmunnock Road, Mount Florida.
Not only are Laurie Ross due thanks for supporting this competition Queen’s Park are also delighted to advise that they have agreed that all the entries can be handed into them for judging and then for placement in their branch windows.
Queen’s Park wish everyone taking part – Good Luck and Merry Christmas!
We would like to request that all entries are handed into the Mount Florida Branch of Laurie Ross with the closing date being 4.00pm on Tuesday, December 19.
Kieran Koszary, Head of Commercial at Queen’s Park, said: “The Design a Christmas Card competition has been a great success and I am sure this year will complete a great hat-trick of success.
“The Laurie Ross Branch at Mount Florida has ended up very well decorated for Christmas during the last two years and no doubt it will be again come December.”
June Lynch, Managing Director, Laurie Ross Insurance added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Queen’s Park FC on the Design a Christmas Card Competition for the third year running. Our Mount Florida branch will be displaying the amazing entries so please feel free to drop by and view the artwork of the incredibly talented children in our local community. Good luck!”
