First Quantum suspends commercial operations at Cobre Panama mine

First Quantum on Tuesday said it had suspended commercial production at its Cobre Panama mine after the Panama Supreme Court declared that the Canadian miner's contract to operate a lucrative copper mine in the country was unconstitutional.

The company added that it was "applying a program of Preservation and Safe Maintenance to ensure the compliance and environmental integrity of the site."
