The Government holds a 72% stake in Cochin Shipyard through the Ministry of Shipping. The company has a facility to construct ships weighing upto 1.1 lakh dead weight tonnes. It has a track record of constructing 175 vessels, and prior experience of building an aircraft carrier. It is therefore well placed to win the order of a new aircraft when it will be awarded.
