The New Royal Family Book May Reveal Who Commented on Prince Archie’s Skin Tone & The Internet Thinks This Was Deliberate

British journalist Omid Scobie released a book about the royal family yesterday, and — as you can probably imagine — it’s already causing a major stir. Not only because he dropped juicy details about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s eviction from Frogmore Cottage and about the family’s notorious feud, but because one of the translations has allegedly gone very wrong.

The Dutch version of Scobie’s Endgame is being pulled from shelves because it reportedly names the family members who made the infamous comments about Prince Archie’s skin tone. There were allegedly “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

The English version does not name the family members. The stark contrast has people wondering if the Dutch edition is wholly incorrect and speculating that perhaps it was based on an earlier manuscript.

“Having only written and edited the English version of Endgame, I can only comment on that manuscript — which does not name the two individuals who took part in the conversation,” Scobie told People in a statement. “I’m happy to hear that the error in the translation of the Dutch edition is being fixed.”

Dutch publishers are also calling the name drops an “error” and told People that corrected copies will be available in the Netherlands next week.

The internet is not so convinced this was merely an “error.”

“A PR stunt.”

“Oh please. This has been done on purpose! It’s a PR tactic and has Meghan’s footprint all over it! Tipycal [sic] of her.”

“Deliberate leak, I suspect.”

Perhaps most apt of all, “This doesn’t mean it’s true. They could have named anyone.”

Scobie’s royal reporting niche, so to speak, has certainly been the Sussexes. He has been dubbed “pro-Sussex,” and he tells SheKnows’ Entertainment Editor Alice Kelly exclusively that there are “very few people” who feel comfortable writing anything that paints Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in a positive light.

“Because the result is you won’t be invited to the private media briefings or given the text message with a heads ups of things the night before a news story breaks,” he says.

Despite what people think, he insists that he is not a friend of Meghan’s. “I wish Meghan was telling me things,” Scobie jokes. “It has never been the case. I’ve never in my life sat down with her privately or publicly.”

So while a narrative may be that “Meghan’s footprint” is all over this, Scobie has told SheKnows he does not get his information from her, and both he and his publisher insist this was a mistake.
