'Worse than Santos': McCarthy hits Gaetz by hinting at criminal deeds in ethics complaint
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) suggested this week that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) may have committed crimes "worse than" Rep. George Santos (R-NY).
The former speaker has long said he was ousted because he refused to kill an ethics investigation into Gaetz.
"I can't be involved in that," McCarthy told The Daily Mail. "I do know that what people have said and written about it seems even worse than Santos, and I know where Santos ends up."

McCarthy added that he hoped "no one's cut any deals" to derail the ethics investigation into Gaetz.
The Justice Department has said that it would not charge Gaetz as part of a sex-trafficking investigation. Reports speculated that Gaetz violated federal law by paying for sex with an 18-year-old girl.
Gaetz denies any wrongdoing.
Santos is facing expulsion from the U.S. House of Representatives after an Ethics Committee investigation found that he may have committed fraud and other crimes.
