Woke theatre bosses slap bizarre warning on Shakespeare’s Macbeth starring David Tennant
MACBETH fans have been issued with trigger warnings about postnatal depression in a new production.
They are also informed that the famously violent Shakespeare epic features blood and death.
Doctor Who’s David Tennant is to star as Macbeth, who is driven to murder by his deranged wife in the Bard’s play, written in 1606.
Guidance from London’s Donmar Warehouse warns: “This production explores psychosis and contains suggestions of post-combat and postnatal mental health concerns.
“On stage there is blood, scenes of violence and depictions of death.”
Tennant, 52, has never played the Scots warrior, who says as he contemplates killing King Duncan: “Is this a dagger which I see before me?”
The Good Wife star Cush Jumbo, 38, will play Lady Macbeth in the run starting next month.
University students also now get trigger warnings about violence in subjects including Shakespeare.
The Donmar was approached for comment.
