Dog With Apparent Italian Accent Baffles Social Media Users

0

We've heard that dogs can sometimes resemble their owners physically, but it turns out they might also do so vocally. A video circulating on TikTok shows just how one dog seemingly mimics his human's pattern of speaking.

Aaron the Husky has more than 125,000 followers on TikTok. His owner Antonia, who lives in Italy, chronicles his shenanigans—including his many vocal outbursts—for his adoring fans around the world.

In one video, Antonia speaks Italian with Aaron, prompting the Siberian husky to respond by seemingly attempting to speak the language himself. With an affected expression and leftover vowel sounds at the end of each of its "sentence," Aaron seemed to some users to be speaking in a stereotypical Italian accent.

"Why does the husky sound Italian[?]” one user commented on the video. "That dog is full-on Italian," another wrote. Another believed he was asking "Where's the gabagool?"

Aaron has become somewhat of a TikTok celebrity for his endearing way of speaking. Comments on other videos tell a similar story of fans who love to hear the dog talk to his owner with an apparent Italian inflection. "I never thought that dogs can have an actual accent," one commenter admitted.

Others commended his language skills and ability to communicate in other tongues. "This husky knows more Italian than me," one person wrote.

Aaron's speech isn't just non-Italians ascribing an accent to the dog's voice. Back in 2000, England's Canine Behavior Center conducted a study that found that dogs develop regional accents like their owners because their owner's speech influences the way a dog vocalizes. So, if you think your dog has an annoying bark, you might want to look in the mirror first.
