The air quality index (AQI) in Gurgaon worsened to 222 (poor) on Wednesday from 196 (moderate) on Tuesday. Sector 51 had the highest AQI at 285 (poor), followed by Gwalpahari (195), Teri Gram (178), and Vikas Sadan (162). The wind speed decreased from 10kmph to 6kmph, slowing down the dispersion of pollutants. The humidity was 63%, further hindering the dispersion process. Experts predict a further deterioration of AQI in the coming days due to factors like thermal inversion, local emissions, and the lack of policies to curb pollution sources. The PM2.5 and PM10 levels were highest in Sector 51, exceeding the annual average permissible limits.
